My Panel Discussion in Epic Narratives in Comics: Sci-fi, Afrofuturism, and Beyond

Newton Lilavois at Panel Discussion- Epic Narratives in Comics: Sci-fi, Afrofuturism, and Beyond

Today, I had the pleasure of speaking on a panel called "Epic Narratives in Comics: Sci-fi, Afrofuturism, and Beyond" at the Schomburg Center's Black Comic Book Fest. It was hosted by Erika Hardison and I was joined by fellow panelist, Tim Fielder.

Personally, the panel was enjoyable because it gave me the chance to reminisce on some of the sci-fi movies and shows I enjoyed in my youth. It was also great hearing the prospective of my fellow panelist and the creator of the sci-fi graphic novel Matty’s Rocket, Tim Fielder.

I spoke about my upcoming afrocentric sci-fi comic book, Galaxy Cadets, and what my plans are for this "Epic Narrative." The best part of the Galaxy Cadets series is that it's been an enjoyable learning experience as I dig deeper into both the sci-fi genre and the African and African diaspora culture. Deciding how to blend afrocentric themes with sci-fi, fantasy, and adventure is absolutely fun.
